Jean Baptiste Lamarck, born August 1st 1744 was a solider, biologist academic, and an early proponent of the idea that evolution occurred and proceeded in accordance with natural laws. Lamarck was one of the first biologist to propose a mechanism for the theory of evolution. His concept was called the "Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics" or "Theory of Use-Disuse." If an organism uses a structure a lot and so do its ancestors over time that structure develops better. Although he was wrong, this was the first real attempt at figuring out how living things before our time evolved into what they are today.
